Code of Conduct and Commitments
The commitments of OBJETS DESIGN are as follows:
Standards of excellence applied to all aspects of our business, in every part of the world.
- Ethical and responsible conduct in all our operations.
- Respect for individual rights in all circumstances.
- Respect for the environment.
We ask all our factories, as well as those manufacturing our products, to share these same commitments. At a minimum, we require that all factories producing our products comply with the following standards:
Child labor
Factories will not employ children. The term "child" refers to any person under the age of 15 (or 14 where the law permits) or, if higher, the minimum legal age for employment or the age at which compulsory education ends. Factories employing young people who are not classified as "children" must also comply with the applicable laws and regulations concerning these individuals.
Forced labor
Factories will not use forced or involuntary labor, whether through imprisonment, slavery, compulsory labor contracts, or any other means.
Coercion and harassment
Factories will treat each employee with dignity and respect and will not resort to corporal punishment, threats of violence, or any other form of harassment or physical, sexual, psychological, or verbal abuse.
Non-discrimination
Factories will not engage in discrimination in hiring and recruitment, including in relation to wages, benefits, promotions, disciplinary actions, dismissal, or retirement, based on race, religion, age, nationality, social or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender, political views, or disabilities.
Association
Factories will respect employees' right to associate, organize, or engage in collective bargaining peacefully and in accordance with the law, without punishment or interference.
Health and safety
Factories will provide employees with a clean and safe working environment, in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and will ensure at a minimum proper access to drinking water and sanitation facilities; fire safety; and adequate lighting and ventilation. Factories will also ensure that the same standards of health and safety apply to any housing provided to their employees.
Compensation
We expect factories to recognize that wages are essential to meet employees' basic needs. Factories will, at a minimum, comply with all applicable laws and regulations regarding wages and working hours, including those related to minimum wage, overtime, maximum working hours, piece rates, and other aspects of compensation, and will provide the benefits required by law. Except in extraordinary circumstances for the business, factories will not require employees to work beyond the shortest duration of the following working hours:
(a) 48 hours per week and 12 hours of overtime, or
(b) Legal limits for the number of regular and overtime hours, or, where laws do not limit working hours, the normal workweek for the country in question plus 12 hours of overtime. Additionally, except in extraordinary circumstances for the business, employees will be entitled to at least one day off within every seven-day period. Overtime pay for employees will be at the legally mandated rate or, in the absence of overtime regulations, at a rate at least equivalent to the usual hourly rate. When local industry standards exceed existing regulations, we require factories to comply with the highest standards.
Environmental protection
Factories will comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Other laws
Factories will comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including those related to manufacturing, pricing, sale, and distribution of goods.
All references to "applicable laws and regulations" in this Code of Conduct include local and national codes, rules, and regulations, as well as applicable treaties and voluntary industry standards.
Subcontracting
Factories will employ subcontractors for the manufacturing of OBJETS DESIGN products only if they commit to complying with the standards outlined in this Code of Conduct.
Monitoring and compliance
Factories will allow OBJETS DESIGN and the agents it designates (including third parties) to engage in monitoring activities to confirm compliance with this Code of Conduct, including unannounced on-site inspections of manufacturing facilities and housing provided by the employer; reviews of hiring books and records; and private interviews with employees. Factories will maintain on-site documentation that can demonstrate their compliance with this Code of Conduct.
Publication
Factories will take the necessary steps to ensure that the provisions of this Code of Conduct are communicated to employees, including displaying a copy of this Code of Conduct in the local language in a prominent location, where employees can easily access it at all times.
